The Switch from Plastic to Bamboo
As we all know plastic, while easy, isn’t always the best option for the environment and our bodies.
Why?
Here are a few reasons:
Plastic is a by product of petroleum❌. (yes petroleum is toxic. I will get into it later.)
The chemicals added to plastic are toxic and can cause serious health issues.
Plastic can poison the soil that is used to grow the fruit and veggies that we eat. (buying organic can reduce the toxic chemicals we consume)
Plastic can kill wildlife.
Why Bamboo
It reduces carbon dioxide which makes this eco friendly. (super important)
It’s biodegradable. Meaning it can breakdown. Plastic can take up to several years to breakdown and when they do, they release toxic chemicals into our water and soil. (super important)
No pesticides nor chemicals are needed for harvesting bamboo.
Microwavable (use the stove and oven over the microwave as much as possible)
Dishwasher safe.
It’s pretty impossible to avoid plastic. It’s literally everywhere in everything that we have in our possession. Even in things we do not realize has plastic. However, we can take small steps to reduce the plastic that we use and consume in our day to day lives.
From experience, this has been an easy switch to make. I personally use bamboo plates and bowls for the kids and it has been a great switch for us. They are easy to clean and don’t leave a spaghetti sauce stain like plastic can 😉.
Before I list my suggestions of bamboo, here are other plastic free eco friendly options to consider:
Buy food or products in glass as much as possible.
Store food in glass, ceramic, or porecelin when possible.
Drink out of glass or stainless steel cups and bottles when possible.
Buy, store, or use things in food grade silicone.
